Playing 'Chicken'?

This partridge has been playing chicken with me a couple of times a week lately. It's amazing. I can always hear them when I'm in the house. I can feel the drumming of their wings in the back of the neck, like the slow startup of a 2-cycle engine. Love these little critters, but this one has been slowing me up lately.

Some Unexpected Visitors

Who also took a swim in Elizabeth's pool.  I think they're tame as they didn't run away when we came out of the house to take their picture. Gave them some cracked corn and showed them the pond.

Deer in the Back 40

There was a doe with her new wobbly-legged fawn in our back yard. I took these pictures from our brown room. Baby was nursing while mom looked on. Pretty cool little miracle. Even more so as I look on, rubbing my own swollen belly. God is so good.

Ducks in the Back Pond

We always enjoy the wild life on our property. This years we've had Canadian Honkers and wild ducks swimming in our pond. We set some corn out last week for them, and while they loved it, the deer enjoyed it even more. The twin deer from 2 years ago still come around and help themselves to our grass and seeds. Here's a picture of a beautiful mallard that was just chillin' out by the shed.

A Few Wildlife Visitors

We've been watching twin fawns visit our yard with their mama since they had spots. They were back yesterday without their mother, but they still came back for a visit.

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lion?

This poor little birdie was getting a bite to eat during our winter storm today. We are expecting 6-8". So she was bulking up on some foods when I went out to fill the bird feeder this afternoon, and not easily scared away. I'm pretty sure she is a house finch, all ruffled up and slightly damp from the wet snow falling. She's probably wondering the same as me,"when will spring be here?" We saw 2 robin red breasts this past weekend too and the Canadian Honkers have been coming home as well, making their noisy arrival as they fly overhead.

We had a couple of partridge eating the buds off of our chokecherry trees the other day.
Last week we had a family of 4 in the front yard!
Last spring we had a few visitors come mow our grass for us!
