Beautiful Weather this Summer & Fall

​Before I forget to note: this year was a perfect weather, low allergy, low bug year.  The summer was perfect for temps and rain.  The wintery-spring lasted long into April, but the ground was moist. And this autumn has been one of the longest.  We saw a few flakes in Oct, so that was the end of the garden, but on Halloween it was in the high 60’s. Nov 2 it was 69°.  We haven’t had to use the new wood stove but a few time, much to David’s disappointment because he likes tending the fire.

I forgot to post a pic of April 1st, but here we are at April 7th. It’s been a more mild winter and a nice, slow spring.  It’s SO nice to see more green than white out there in the yard and to see the garden again. 💚

Sunday, Oct 13th Updates

I love my blog. Sadly I’ve mostly ignored it since it became more difficult to get pictures from my phone onto the website without having to download them onto the computer first. Plus there’s no blog app any longer, so that’s an inconvenience. BUT I think google did an upgrade because I can now post pics from my phone directly to the blogger website ... so here’s hoping. I like being able to look up some of my favorite recipes or when we changed something or watch the kids grow through my blog. FB just isn’t the same.

Anyhow this pic represents our first snow of the year (thanks to “global warming”), our new motion night lights on the attached garage I’ve been wanting for a while, and the gone garage. David took this summer to take down the garage and break apart the concrete in order to lay down 12” of sand to prep for the new building. We were hoping to have the slab in place by this time, but EVERYTHING in life seems to take longer than expected.

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like...Spring?

I was raking out the chicken coop and decided to take a picture of this winter wonderland.  I don't mind.  The garden-planning is in my head, the kids are still having fun in the snow, and the comfort foods are still being baked inside.  It'll melt quickly.  It can't be winter forever...can it?  Maybe we've walked into the Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe!! :)

Beautiful Winter

Our first summer, fall, & winter were awesome. Our snow was gone last wk, March 15th. We had about 4" more come then disappear by the wkend.  I know this is a fluke, but I'm loving it!!! SO excited to be planting soon!!!

Last Snowman

These are the last snowmen of ther year. It's 3/11/16 and its 60* outside!!! Hung my sheets outside and washed my van. Whoop whoop!!

48* in December

Temp on my van was 48* even though net said 45* @ airport.  The kids were WAY over dressed to play outside, but we had FUN!  I've never seen so much grass in December. 

Library Set Up

Still "setting up" I added a 3rd row to our, thankfully very sturdy, bookcase and got our books organized.  I know I should be doing more outside work while it is nice and saving the indoor projects for a long winter, but since it has been 90*+ outside this past week, the coolness of the basement was very inviting.

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

Windchill: -50. But I still have to say, I can handle this (short term) slightly more than 90 degrees & 100% humidity.

Some Like It Hot, Hot, Hot

What better way to enjoy 90 degrees than a pool party?  It will probably be our first & last of 2013 as it has been a cool, wet summer in general. 

Snow, & lots of it, April 18th

Getting LOTS of snow tonight. Not sure how much & it changes depending on which station you watch. And having furnace/chimney problems to boot. David is on the mission of fixing it tonight.

-30 on the drive to work this morning. 13 above in the garage. Thank God for insulation & a wonderful husband & Dad-in-law who blew it in the ceiling this winter! Yikes. "This too shall pass."

Blizzard of '12

We got between 6-8" today. Not exactly a "blizzard" per say, but it's the most snow we've accumulated in one day all winter. It's been such a mild winter and we're very thankful for the beautiful winter and mild temps. We deperately need the moisture, and we had lots of fun playing in the white fluff today!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...MN!

We've had a comfortable summer, a wonderfully beautiful autumn, and now...old man winter has moved in for the next 5 months. My awesome husband: Sunday night he plows until 11:00 at night, goes to bed, gets ready for work the next morning, and has to plow again because it was warm enough for all the snow to sluff off the garage throughout the night. After work, he comes home and plows again for another 4 hours, and crawls up on the roof at 9 PM to shovel off the roof. I am so amazed by him sometimes.

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like ... Fall!

I love fall. I think it's the favorite season of most people. It's a time of new beginnings, probably engrained in us from the 13+years of school we endured in our earliest and most impressionable years. January is just too cold and fridgid for "new beginnings". It's like going back to work Monday morning...a fresh start to new challenges. I even have most of my Christmas shopping done for the year! My garden is pretty much done. I got my green tomatoes off the vine for fried green tomatoes (makes my mouth water just thinking about them) and the cabbage will be pulled up tonight.

Auntie Em, Auntie Em!

It was a beautiful day today! The ducks are back, swimming in our back pond, there are Canadian goose tracks in the driveway, and even the frogs are ribbiting for spring. On our walk today, Lexie and I had it easy going one direction, but on the last mile home, I thought we were going to be hit by a twister! Ok, so I exaggerate, but my hair was whipped straight back as well as my coat and the poor dog, who's tail is usually curled up on her back, couldn't even keep her ears or tail up. We were quite a sight, fighting our way back to the house against the Wind-say winds, as Pooh would say. Squinting and walking like Frankenstein. But the exercise was good and so was the, um, fresh air. But I'll take it to have spring temps like this in March. 65 today!

March 24th First Clothes to Hang Outside

I love to hang my sheets out on the line. Since my Little Girl Lex like to sneak into our room during the day and sleep on our bed, my chocolate brown comforter had little white hairs all over. So I washed the sheets & bedspread and hung them out to dry. Mmmm, one of my favorite scents, back again for another year! 60 degrees outside today! I even downgraded from the 3-season jacket to a sweatshirt when Lexie & I did our 2-mile walk today and opened the windows to get the dull winter air out of the house.

March- in Like a Lamb

March 10th and 55 degrees outside! Can you believe it? It actually rained last night. Nice to clean up the roads a little and get the salt off of them. Let's pray that it keeps up. Lexie likes it a lot better and our walks are a lot more pleasant than -20! Keep it comin', Lord!
