Natural Treatment for Plantar Warts

My 3 yo had a plantar wart on her foot.  Instead of treating it at the dr's (oh the drama, I could only imagine!) I researched natural alternatives.  What worked?  Banana peel, placed inside towards the skin, held on with a bandade.  We did this every night for a week.  3 wks later it turned black, died, and disappeared.  She has a tiny scar in its place, barely visible to the eye.

Being "Religous" is OK

I love my religion.  There has been a few digs against the Catholic religion and, if appropriate, I defend it.  I shouldn't have to, but I do.  Why is it ok to talk down about one religion or "being religious"?  Religion is just the path you take to God, and everyone's path is different.  I respect that. I   found that I LOVE that in the 8 1/2 years I've been Catholic that I've never heard a priest, or any lay person, talk down ANY other belief or religion.  Rant over...can you tell that an old friend of mine posted an anti-pope article on fb recently? However she tore him up one side and down the other without reading the article.  He said he believes in evolution, but that in the sense that bodies, animals, and plants change in order to accommodate their environment--not that we came from monkeys. He also considers the Big Bang to have occurred, but that God did it.  Of course I cannot share this on fb, so I spew this on my own on-line journal, because I can without sarcastic comments. I figure if you love God, pray, help others, follow the 10 commandments, and treat your neighbor with kindness and don't look down your nose at anyone, you are to be appreciated & respected.

  1. Rub 1 drop over the thyroid daily for thyroid support.
  2. Rub 1 drop along with a bit of fractionated coconut oil over cracked or chapped skin.
  3. Place 20 drops of myrrh in a 10ml glass roller ball and top with fractionated coconut oil. Rub over stretch marks 2x daily to reduce their appearance.
  4. Place 20 drops of Myrrh, 20 drops of Frankincense and 20 drops of Sandalwood in a 10ml glass roller ball and top with fractionated coconut oil. Rub a few swipes on the feet 2x daily for healthy cell support.
  5. Diffuse 2 drops Myrrh and 2 drops Lavender to help reduce stress.
  6. Rub 1 drop Myrrh and 1 drop Breath over the chest for occasional congestion.
  7. Add a few drops to a cold compress and apply it directly to any infected or inflamed area for relief. It can help reduce swelling and inflammation.
  8. Add one or two drops of the oil to your daily lotion or moisturizer. This mixture can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly when used daily.

Trusting God's Will

Psalm 139:13-16

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.

First reading: Rev 11-12

RV 11:19A; 12:1-6A, 10AB

God’s temple in heaven was opened,
and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple.

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet,
and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.
Then another sign appeared in the sky;
it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems.
Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky
and hurled them down to the earth.
Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth,
to devour her child when she gave birth.
She gave birth to a son, a male child,
destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.
Her child was caught up to God and his throne.
The woman herself fled into the desert
where she had a place prepared by God.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have salvation and power come,
and the Kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Anointed.”

Today: our Lady of Guadalupe

Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe!  On this day back in 1531, our Blessed Mother appeared in Mexico to a 57-year old peasant named Juan Diego.

According to the earliest reliable account of the story, Juan Diego was walking near what is now Mexico City (Tepeyac Hill) when he came upon an apparition of a “maiden” whom he soon came to recognize as the Virgin Mary. Mary appeared to be wearing the dress of an Aztec princess. The sash tied around her waist was a symbol of pregnancy, indicating that she was with child.

When he told the archbishop, he asked for a sign to prove what he had seen.

Upon returning, Mary instructed Juan Diego to climb to the top of the hill to gather flowers to bring back to the bishop. Reaching the crest of the hill, Juan Diego found Castilian roses, which were neither in season nor native to the region. The Blessed Mother arranged the flowers herself in Juan’s tilma (a burlap-type cloak) and instructed him in his native language to open the cloak only upon return to the bishop.

When Juan Diego arrived back at the bishop’s residence, he opened his cloak and the flowers fell to the floor. Left on the surface of his tilma was the image that’s come to be known as “Our Lady of Guadalupe."  Several million Aztecs were converted to the Catholic faith by the power of this image in just under seven years.

A shrine that was subsequently built on the spot where the original tilma can still be seen is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in the world today.

As Patroness of the Americas, may she watch over our country & us all.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

Dance Lessons

Elizabeth has been begging me for months to take dance lessons. Even for her birthday I bought her ballet slippers and a leotard. It wasn't until we stopped at a dance studio to buy Nutcracker tickets for her and I that I realize they had dancing for little girls. The owner recommended a 45 minute weekly class that taught all different types of dance.  Come to find out her co-teacher was also be her last-year's (8th grader) prayer partner from school.   So we signed her up, and of course like she does with everything she gets nervous the day before, can't sleep at night, and hangs on to me when we get there. She's an outgoing little girl, and I know she'll do just fine.  I end up feeling like the bad mom that while she's crying into my sleeve I'm pushing her into the dance studio.  There's 9 other little girls there. They invite her to sit down. She refuses. Her co-teacher she loves & adores is late. "Come on, God.  Help Ali to get here safe."  After 15 minutes Elizabeth is bending, prancing, and galloping with the rest of them.  She knows "Rose" a first grader from school.  They come out when they're done and she ALL smiles and pink-cheeked.  "Mom, can I come again next week?!"

Sometimes God presses us to do uncomfortable things.  "Should I tell that person I'm here for them?" "Should I start a new job, volunteer more?"  "Should I move, should I stay?" This was a good reminder for me that when He presses us, he'll be with us the entire way, His face pressed against the glass and his heart filled with pride saying, "YOU CAN DO THIS!"

Phil 4:13  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Grace vs Mercy

Grace is a gift, giving us what we don't deserve,
Mercy is NOT giving us what we do deserve.

Fostering Experience

After 6 months of starting the licensing process, David and I were finally licensed to adopt on 4/20/16.  Our caseworker sent many emails on individual cases and either they weren't a good match (i.e. The child couldn't be with younger children or animals, had a Hx of aggression, etc.) or when we did say "yes" someone else was chosen.  Sept 12th we got the phone call for an emergency placement of a baby boy.  They needed an answer within a 1/2 HR.

We had this little buddy for 9 1/2 wks.  We were warned ahead of time that he may be with us for weeks, months, or even years.  Our caseworker had kids placed in homes for 4 years and going.  This is what I prepared my heart for in regards to our little buddy.  His mom went to court and while we don't know the outcome, she was given visitation and he was moved to a foster home closer to mom.

Baby went from having injuries to being healed.  Eating 10 bottles/day (an extra 300 calories/day for him) to incorporating solids 4x/day and the right amounts of formula.  He would wake every 3 hours at night and cat-napping all day to taking 2 naps/day and sleeping 11 hrs @ night.  We taught him to crawl, pull himself up, feed self fingerfoods, play patty cake & peek-a-boo.  I wish I could have seen his family when they saw him again and how much he changed, including getting his first 2 teeth.

We got into this process to adopt, not foster.  I don't think we'll foster again for a while because it was so hard on the girls to say goodbye.  I had a hard time too, but I know we were there for him for a season.  Many times you just don't know how long a season will last.  Maybe it's a good thing he won't remember us. One less person's feelings hurt.

People gave us such nice compliments, but they gave us too much credit.  "Good for you!"  But I see it like this: what if a mom threw her baby out of a burning building to you to save him.  Would you catch him and care for him if he had no one else?  Absolutely.

This little fella will always have someone praying for him.  I hope the best for him. He touched a lot of lives in a short amount of time.

2016 Election

I'll be honest, I voted for Evan McMullin.  I wish it would have been Hillary vs Ted Cruz.  BUT -- that didn't stop David and I from rooting for Trump last night when watching the polls.  I don't know what we will get with Trump, but I do know what we would get with Hillary...4 more years of what Obama did to this poor country, and worse.

I pray for our country.  I pray for our president.  Republicans took the presidency, the house, & the senate.  As much as people believe that Obama did "such great things for our nation", I beg to ask the question -- then why did the country vote this way and BEG for change???

I believe Trump is deep down still democrat, but I also believe he likes to be popular and well liked. He does not want to fail.  Obama has divided this country horribly.  In Glen Beck's words, Trump has his work cut out for him...about as much as Lincoln had to unify this nation.  Obama & Clinton are of the "us and them" mentality.  She made this clear when she called Trump supporters "deplorables".  I pray Trump reaches across the aisle and fixes what is terribly, terribly wrong.
Trump got Florida, Michigan, & Wisconsin -- what does that tell you? Hope and change went the wrong way, but I digress.

God bless America.

Make Me a Servant, Humble & Meek. Lord Let Me Lift up Those Who Are Weak...

The following reflection is courtesy of Don Schwager (c) 2016, whose website is located at DailyScripture.net
Are you ready to give the Lord your best, regardless of what it might cost you? Perhaps we are like the laborer in Jesus' parable who expected special favor and reward for going the extra mile? How unfair for the master to compel his servant to give more than what was expected! Don't we love to assert our rights: "I will give only what is required and no more!" But who can satisfy the claims of love?
We are called to serve God and neighbor selflessly and generously
Jesus used this parable of the dutiful servant to explain that we can never put God in our debt or make the claim that God owes us something. We must regard ourselves as God's servants, just as Jesus came "not to be served, but to serve"(Matthew 20:28). Service of God and of neighbor is both a voluntary or free act and a sacred duty. One can volunteer for service or be compelled to do service for one's country or one's family when special needs arise. Likewise, God expects us to give him the worship and praise which is his due. And he gladly accepts the  free-will offering of our lives to him and to his service. What makes our offering pleasing to God is the love we express in the act of self-giving. True love is sacrificial, generous, and selfless.
The love of God compels us to give our best
How can we love others selflessly and unconditionally? Scripture tells us that God himself is love (1 John 4:16) - he is the author of life and the source of all true relationships of love and friendship. He created us in love for love, and he fills our hearts with the boundless love that gives whatever is good for the sake of another (Romans 5:5). If we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us (1 John 4:12).
God honors the faithful servant who loves and serves others generously. He is ever ready to work in and through us for his glory. We must remember, however, that God can never be indebted to us. We have no claim on him. His love compels us to give him our best! And when we have done our best, we have simply done our duty. We can never outmatch God in doing good and showing love. God loves us without measure. Does the love of God compel you to give your best?
"Lord Jesus, fill my heart with love, gratitude and generosity. Make me a faithful and zealous servant for you. May I generously pour out my life in loving service for you and for others, just as you have so generously poured yourself out in love for me."

Sometimes...I Wonder

I love Fiddler on the Roof.  Some days I feel like Tevye:
[to God]
Tevye: I know, I know. We are Your chosen people. But, once in a while, can't You choose someone else?

[to God]
Tevye: Sometimes I think, when it gets too quiet up there, You say to Yourself, "What kind of mischief can I play on My friend Tevye?"

Happy birthday to me--my theme song

We've sung this song so many times in church this past month that I'm claiming it as my goal.  It brings tears to my eyes every time. Love, love, love it. Simple yet sweet.  A good song from my childhood and growing with me.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God
And His righteousness;
And all these things shall be added unto you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Ask, and it shall be given unto you;
Seek, and you shall find.
Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Man shall not live by bread alone,
But by every word
That proceeds out from the mouth of God.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Lemongrass EOs

Here are my 5 favorite ways to use Lemongrass Essential Oil:
  1. Use 1 drop of Lemongrass with some Fractionated Coconut Oil and rub onto sore muscles.
  2. Rub 1 drop of Lemongrass on the bottoms of the feet each day to support healthy thyroid function.
  3. Place 1-2 drops in a veggie capsule to take internally to support the digestive system, as well as to combat candida. This works especially well if you have issues consuming dairy! (I recognize that ingesting essential oils internally is a controversial topic! Therefore, if you have any questions regarding this topic, please contact your holistic practitioner, and if you're not comfortable ingesting the oils, then simply rub 1-2 drops over the stomach.)
  4. Diffuse: 2 drop Lemongrass, 2 drops Thyme, 2 drops Eucalyptus, and 2 drops Basil for a natural insect repellent.
  5. Rub 1-2 drops with some Fractionated Coconut Oil on any areas of the body that are retaining fluids. The oil can help reduce edema and improve circulation.

Sleepless Nights...again

I truly believe that the human body knows what's going on before  we cognitively comprehend it.

Late August and early September I was having trouble sleeping. I haven't had this much trouble since  my pregnancies and infanthood of my babies . I would wake up at about 1 o'clock stay awake until three or four in the morning and have no rhyme or reason for it except I thought I was pregnant.

Three weeks later I get a phone call to take in a baby, short-term or long-term, we don't yet know. He comes with terrible sleeping habits which we are working on with him.  It is slowly improving as he increases his trust in us.  Call it coincidence, Call it a God thing, call it what you like.  But I truly believe my body knew that something was coming before I did.

I am still amazed that mothers can survive on the little sleep that we get.   I thought caring for a baby and limiting your sleep came with pregnancy, breastfeeding, or hormones.  But it turns out it is such a God-thing that he gives to parents.   If my kiddos can't sleep, one of us will usually crawl into bed with them.  While we don't sleep well, we still wake able to make it through the day that the Lord has made.  ;)

Amazing how our Creator created us.

I am Catholic, but…

I tire easily of the phrase, "I'm a Catholic, but…" It's usually followed by: I believe in the death penalty, I am pro choice, I use birth control, I'm a part of (this) political party, etc.

When I tell people that I am Catholic, I can see it in their eyes. They're assuming that I am a "Catholic, but..., Catholic."  That I'm not really passionate about my Lord and the church he built for us.

For years I would tell people that I am "very Catholic". And let their imaginations do the rest.  I found a term today that I love. "Authentic Catholic".

Here's a website I found that I like. It makes being authentic a little clearer as I'm learning of this journey of religion that I'm on.

I'm posting it here incase I forget it.

Peppermint oil

To help, here are my 10 favorite ways to use Peppermint Oil:

  1. Headache Relief - Rub 1-2 drops of Peppermint over your temples, the back of your neck, or on the area of concern.
  2. To Relieve Sinus Pressure - Rub 1 drop over your sinuses to help make for easier breathing. Be sure to stay away from your eyes!
  3. Fever Reducer - A fever is a good thing because it helps the body fight infection, but if you’re wanting to lower your body temperature, 1-2 drops rubbed on the bottoms of the feet or on the back of the neck can help cool the body.
  4. Natural Energizer - Stay away from the Red Bull! Diffuse 3-4 drops each of Peppermint and Wild Orange to help you stay awake and improve focus.
  5. Sunburn Relief - If you’ve been out in the sun a bit too long, 1 drop of Peppermint and 1 drop of Lavender combined with some Fractionated Coconut Oil can be rubbed on the area of concern to cool the skin and alleviate the burning.
  6. To Relieve Bloating, Indigestion Gas, or Nausea - Rub 1-2 drops on the area of concern, or if you’re comfortable, drop 1 drop of Peppermint directly on your tongue and drink a glass of water.
  7. Freshen Your Breath - Place 1 drop of Peppermint on your tongue for super fresh breath!
  8. Respiratory Support - Rub 1 drop of Peppermint over your chest to help clear the air ways and open the lungs.
  9. To Relieve Sore Muscles - Rub 1-2 drops of Peppermint on the area of concern.
  10. To Reduce Stress - Diffuse 3 drops of Peppermint and 3 drops of Citrus Bliss.

A Note to Another Soul

I can lose anything. That's why I throw everything away that I don't need.  My husband and I are both throwers.  He throws because he doesn't want the junk. I throw because I don't want to dig through the junk to find what I'm looking for. I like to think of myself organized, yet I lose my keys at least once a week.

That being said I do have one drawer of special Momentos that I hold dear to my heart. But if they were ever lost in the fire or a burglary they'd be gone.

Do you ever wish you could write a note to somebody's soul?  Do you ever wish you could tell them how much you really love and admire them and that they could feel the love that you feel for them at that time and moment?  There are so many people in my life who have shaped who I am that I would like to thank, but when you put it into words it doesn't seem like it's strong enough or  heartfelt enough.  Or you do make it sound good, and then you feel too voluneravle for putting your heart on the line.

We are taking care of a baby right now. I don't know if it will be long-term or short-term. But just like my daughters I'm up at night with him feeding him, rocking him, loving him. If he leaves us tomorrow will he ever know how much I loved him?  How much time and energy I spent on him.  How much he changed my life as I hope I did his.

  3. To relieve stress - diffuse 3 drops of Cedarwood and 3 drops of Lavender.
  4. To improve dry scalp and circulation - combine 2 drops of Cedarwood with 1 tablespoon of Fractionated Coconut Oil and rub it into the scalp. Let sit for 30 minutes and then shampoo out.
  5. For joint discomfort - rub 1 drop of Cedarwood on area of concern.
  6. To relieve dry, itchy skin - add 1 drop of Cedarwood to your lotion and apply where needed.
  7. To reduce a cough - rub 1 drop of Cedarwood on the lungs or throat area to help reduce congestion.
  8. To repel mosquitos and household insects - Diffuse 4 drops of Cedarwood or put 20 drops in a glass spray bottle topped off with filtered water and spray around the house to repel insects

Today's Gospel

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
is also trustworthy in great ones;
and the person who is dishonest in very small matters
is also dishonest in great ones.
If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth,
who will trust you with true wealth?
If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another,
who will give you what is yours?
No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and mammon.”

"Mom of a Kindergartner "

To My Fellow Moms, on the First Day of Kindergarten

 Aug 21, 2014 | Updated Oct 21, 2014
TRACI BIANCHI

Dear New Kindergarten Mom,

This morning, I bundled my boys into the stroller and went out for one last impromptu morning walk. Max will be starting kindergarten next week, and the days spent hanging out in our jammies and meandering to the nearest park or Starbucks are almost over. My best friend texted me a picture of her own 5-year-old a few minutes later, standing in front of his new elementary school. “How did we get here?!” I texted back. It was yesterday that we were pregnant together. Visiting the fire station with toddlers together. Welcoming second babies together. “How did we get here?!”

Well, Mama, I want you to take a break from packing lunches and tucking pencils into binders. Click out of Pinterest for a minute, and stop reading the list about the Top 10 Lessons You Need To Teach Your Kindergartner. Put down the chalkboard frame that you’re making for the perfect first day photo shoot, and listen up. This one is for you.

How did we get here?

We waited and we worried, reading the BabyCenter emails each week that compared our rapidly growing babies to kiwis and oranges. We mourned losses and said goodbyes to the babies who grew in our hearts, but not our bellies. We labored and breathed and screamed and prayed as our littles made their way into our arms. We ate celebration dinners in hospital beds, or put on our best outfits and brightest smiles as a judge declared us a forever family, or opened our hearts to new dreams as we embraced our partners’ children.

We cradled impossibly small newborn bottoms in the palms of our hands, cut hospital bracelets from tiny ankles and learned to swaddle little limbs into baby burritos. We winced at each bad latch, and exhaled with each great one. We filled bottles and emptied breasts, measured milliliters into droppers and g-tubes. We pumped and we mixed and we forgot to feed ourselves. We fed our babies with love.

We rocked, we paced, we sang. We woke every three hours, or every three minutes. We shushed and we danced and we dozed. We may have spent more time awake than asleep.

We cut grapes into tiny cubes. We cleaned pasta from the carpet and yogurt from their hair. We made sure that the green veggies weren’t touching the orange ones.

We were Batman and Thomas and a dinosaur and a policeman and a princess. We stepped on 47 Legos and built 72 towers and 298 spaceships. We hid in blanket forts and behind closet doors. Sometimes we hid in the bathroom, because it was the only quiet place we could find.

We drove to preschool and playdates. We practiced our goodbyes and perfected our hellos. We caught slippery bodies at swim lessons, and twisted perfect topknots for ballet. We played the tambourine at music class and sang the “Hello, friend” song at Mommy and Me 341 times.

We held chubby little arms and legs tight as the doctor gave each shot. We counted ounces and inches and celebrated each step. We met with speech therapists and occupational therapists and oncologists and radiologists. We elbowed our way down paths that we never thought would rise up to greet us. We fought fear and doubt and guilt. We woke up each day, and put one foot in front of the other.

We yelled at our partners and cried to our mothers and fell into the arms of the friends who became our family. We learned to let other grown-ups love our kids, and struggled to accept a night out or a lasagna or a hug. Or a mimosa.

We worried about TV time and Vitamin D and developmental stages and hearing tests. We celebrated birthdays and did the potty dance and doled out stickers and ultimatums.

We kept going. We got better at it. We surprised ourselves.

We’ve been exhausted, and fed up, and overwhelmed, and overjoyed. We’ve cheered for first words and first steps and first date nights in months. We’ve fallen asleep during Dumbo and memorized Goodnight Moon and Horton Hears A Who.

We’ve bargained with God over stitches and lab tests and “routine” operations. We’ve soothed bad dreams and inspired bigger ones.

We’ve stepped on 4,724 Goldfish crackers and 3,193 Cheerios.

We’ve kissed scrapes and cheeks and noses. We’ve bathed squirmy bodies and cut tiny bangs. We’ve whispered I love yous against giggling bodies. We’ve hugged and we’ve helped and we’ve explained. We’ve answered 17,000 whys and why nots.

We’ve made it.

They’ve made it.

There will be thousands of firsts that follow this one. Our jobs aren’t even close to being done. But on this first day, for the hours that stretch between squeezing his little hand goodbye and welcoming him back to the arms that he began in, be gentle with yourself.

In your heart of hearts, you know that he’s ready.

But I’m here to tell you that you are, too.

You might think this first day is all about him, friend. But it’s also about you.

How did we get here?

You.

You rocked and you fed and you soothed and you worried and you taught and you cuddled and you counted the nap time minutes and added up the ounces and marked the passage of time with pictures and gasps and tears.

So as that brave, crazy kindergarten teacher ushers you out tomorrow and closes the door behind you, be proud.

You did it. We did it.

That classroom of amazing, brilliant, imaginative, loving, self-sufficient (well, sort of), hilarious, unpredictable, completely capable little people? We made them that way. So before you walk away to worry about all of the first days to come and the homework and the life lessons and the setbacks and the TV time and the reward charts... come find me on the playground.

I’ll be looking for you.

Let me be the first one to tell you “Good job, Mama. You survived. You watched as your heart grew outside of your body, and then you prepared him to greet the world alone. He is ready, because when they placed him in your arms, you were.” For all of the times that we’ve told them “good job,” and “great listening,” and “you’re so brave,” and “I’m so proud of you,” not once did we say those things to ourselves. So on that very first day of school, as you take one last look over your shoulder to make sure that your little one is safely tucked into her classroom, and you wipe away the tears as you climb back into your (suddenly very quiet) car, remember this.

You did it. You are so brave. I am so proud of you.

Just look how much you’ve grown.

Happy graduation, Mama.

Love,

A Kindergarten Mom, bawling her eyes out in the car parked next to yours
