Recommended DVDs for Mommies to Be

I bought Shiva Rea's Pregnancy Yoga DVD a few months back. I highly recommend this DVD, pregnant or not. She does have accommodations for women in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters. It is a thorough, overall stretching DVD and I've been looking for something like this for years. I've been doing the DVD since my first trimester and found that Yoga can be a serious challenge, even for limber people. You'd be amazed on the tightness you may have and how good you feel afterwards. This really helps with my breathing now too with baby pushing up on my rib cage. I feel I have more room to breathe after doing Yoga. Also, Sister Heather recommended The Business of Being Born. It's a DVD, directed by Ricki Lake on childbirth. It was very educational on birthing not being such a scary, medical event, but a natural process. It gives the pros & cons of hospital vs home births. (Not that I would do a home birth, but it gives women the strength to take control of their birth plan.) So, that's my peanut gallery recommendation for pregnancy.

Rotisserie Chicken

Have you ever had one of those yummy rotisserie chickens? Well I found their "secret" recipe in my new 500 Low Cholesterol Recipes book. I tried it and threw the chicken breasts into the crockpot. It tasted good, but it was so moist in there that the chicken was surrounded in broth. I'm going to try again, but put the chicken in the oven so that it crisps. We used the broth over a rice & veggie side dish. The mixture is a little on the sweet side, so maybe cut the honey in 1/2, but it's REALLY close.

1/4 C. honey
1 t. paprika
1 t. onion powder
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. dried thyme
1/4 t. garlic powder
4 boneless chicken breasts

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like ... Fall!

I love fall. I think it's the favorite season of most people. It's a time of new beginnings, probably engrained in us from the 13+years of school we endured in our earliest and most impressionable years. January is just too cold and fridgid for "new beginnings". It's like going back to work Monday morning...a fresh start to new challenges. I even have most of my Christmas shopping done for the year! My garden is pretty much done. I got my green tomatoes off the vine for fried green tomatoes (makes my mouth water just thinking about them) and the cabbage will be pulled up tonight.

Ultrasound #4

Ultrasound #4: At Thursday's appt, Dr said I'm measuring small (29 cm @ 32 weeks) so he ordered another ultrasound. There's a lot of reasons why I could be measuring small, some serious, some not so serious, but he just wanted to be sure. According to the ultrasound tech, everything looked good. The baby is measuring good in size; about 4# 7 oz, give or take 11 oz (kind of a stretch, huh?). But she figures BB1 is on average, right at 32 wk, 5days. And we saw "sparkles", a halo of shiny, flashing twinkling around baby's head: hair, the tech told us ... pretty cool. We're still waiting for the report back from the radiologist and physician saying everything is ok, but the baby, amniotic fluid, and placenta all looked good per the tech. PTL. Keeping up the daily prayers.

Sister Act 1992

I love the classics. Not being able to sleep past 4:30, I watched the movie "Sister Act" this morning. It was so much funnier than I remember now that I understand it better. Here's Sister Mary Clarance's (Whoopi Goldberg's) prayer before the meal: "Bless us, oh Lord, for these Thy gifts which we are about to recieve. And yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of no food, I will fear no hunger. We want you to give us this day, our daily bread. And to the republic for which it stands, and by the power invested in me, I pronounce us ready to eat. Amen." The whole movie is a hoot. I recommend giving it another showing at your house for some good clean laughs.

My Little Pancake Flipped

Week 32 of Pregnancy: We had our 32 wk appt this week. Yeah! Baby flipped and the little "bowling ball head" is now head-down, hence the kicks to the rib cage. It can always switch back, but I'm hoping if it found it's way upside down once, it can do it again. Internet Info: Baby is practicing survival skills like sucking and breathing, while your uterus is practicing some Braxton Hicks contractions. What's up with your baby? Tipping the scales at four pounds and topping out at just about 19 inches.
So is it a boy or a girl? Is she carrying high or low? Is she craving salt or sweets? What about the gold ring or Drano tests? What's the heart rate? I'm glad we're not finding out the gender. It's more fun hearing people's guesses. We'll find out in 8 weeks!

Here's Your Sign

I was heating up my leftovers in the microwave today around noon. A coworker walks in a says "ya heatin' up your lunch?" Disliking small talk like I do, I reply, "nope, seeing how many crayons I can melt together before they explode." Here's your sign. (That's for you, Bill Engvall.)

Goodbye Flem our Faithful Floridian Family Flamingo

David had a pink flamingo while residing in Florida (like everyone does in FL), a gift which he brought back with him. Flem lived in our living room and changed his outfit with every season and every holiday for teh past 3 years. He was our pet. Since the adoption of Lexie and the expectation of BB1, he needed more attention than we could give so I brought him to work and one of my staff members gave him a new home. I thought she was going to split a gut as she dressed him up in his many outfits. She has 2 grandchildren who will love him and a new camper he can travel the states in and see more of the world than just our living room. Thanks, Flem, for the good memories and for being part of our family! We hope you bring as much joy to other families as you did to ours.

Box Tops, Campbells Soup Labels, Milk Tops

Box Tops, Campbells Soup Labels, Milk Tops (Kemps & Land-O-Lakes). Please save these for your local school! If you don't know where to send them, I'll take them for my nephews. You'd be surprised where you find the box tops, now even on cans of Progressive soup (per their commercial) & cans of Pillsbury breakfast rolls. Thank you in advance!

Awake

The dehumidifier was beeping at 3:30 AM today, announcing "Hey, I'm full! Come empty me!" Arg. So I got up, emptied it, and it happily started running again. I went back to bed, tossed, turned, flipped. Arg, can't sleep! May as well get up. It got me thinking...why didn't he get up? The beeping didn't even phase David. Then I remembered what one of our Parenting Class instructors had said about men & women and what wakes them in the night, so I research and find this article, When Daddy Goes Deaf:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1231896/When-Daddy-goes-deaf-How-men-really-DONT-hear-babies-crying-asleep.html
That may be true, but a shaking from a spouse or "Psst, your turn" will wake anyone up, believe me. :)

David's Long Lost Brother?

Have you ever wondered if there's someone out there who looks like you? I haven't found my face double, but the guys at David's work tell him he looks like Daniel Tosh from Comedy Central. I've watched Tosh.O and while I do find him funny, I don't think he looks much like my husband, but it was something different to blog about.

Weeks 31 ( & 13) of Pregnancy

Week 31 of Pregnancy
As baby's senses increase, mommy's breathing room decreases. Baby is now in week 31 of pregnancy: Weighing in at 3+ pounds and measuring 18 inches long, baby is quickly approaching birth length. Also developing at an impressive clip: baby's brain connections (trillions of them!). It's now processing information, tracking light, and perceiving signals from all five senses.
AND
Jenny & Junior announced that Baby Parks will be entering this world on 03/05/2011! Now the size of a peach, Baby Parks #1 will be 4 months behind its Baby Brooks cousin. Congrats guys, we're so exicted for you! Much love and congrats to you both!

Garage Painting

There are always little projects to do as a homeowner. This most recent one is painting the garage. But David did get a new toy out of the deal, a paint sprayer to make the job easier, and hopefully to use indoors as well to make painting faster. We still have plenty to do because the weather only cooperated for one day of the weekend.

Baby Moon

We took a "Baby Moon" last weekend, a honeymoon before the baby comes. We went to the cities, to the Science Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls & took in a comedy show at Chanhassen. Really romantic and special time, just the two of us. The Science Museum was amazing, very similiar to one that I attended as a child in Canada. Unfortunately the Dead Sea Scrolls were highly guarded and we were unable to take any pictures, but very informational. They had history on the scrolls, who they think wrote them, how they were preserved and then discovered. They also had SO many artifacts (coins, glass, stoneware, purification cups, clothing) that were absolutely breathtaking and amazingly old. The scrolls themselves were ... amazing. The comedy show was very similiar to "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" and the actors were pretty impressive. Unfortunately we had seats right up front, so we got more attention from the actors than we wanted. :) But it was all in fun. I'd highly recommend the act. Good Baby Moon, and good memories.

My Little Cone Head

My poor little Lexicon. She had a sore on her foot we tried treating w/ one round of antibiodics & antinflammatories, putting a sock on her foot to keep her from licking it-reopening the wound. Unfortunately, it didn't heal and we had to do another round of abx and steroids this time. She then kept licking the Neosporin off of her foot and we finally resulted in putting a cone on her day and night, with breaks during walks and family time. She is finally healing and we have discontinued the cone, but not before we got a picture of our favorite little cone head.

On the Hunt for ... Food Storage Containers

I know, after 4 days of not Blogging, you'd think I'd have something more interesting to talk about. Well...I don't. Mainly b/c I bought a new camera and haven't had a chance to sync it with my computer.
Anyhow, I severely dislike messy Tupperware; mismatching tops, overly-nuked bowls stained red with last week's poor-sketty, just causes useless frustration. I want food storage containers that are all the same brand,
BUT , I do have one recommendation for good food storage and the organization of cluttered drawers:
I bought this unit years ago and haven't been disapppointed yet. It's handy, compact, and organized. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who has limited space or just revels in organization.

Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola

This is a prayer out of our Missal that I pray it either after mass or communion. It's a difficult prayer to pray because you have to surrender to God everything that you consider as yours and what makes you who you are. But we have to remember that everything we have and everything we are originally came from God anyhow. And we have to be willing to give it back to God, because it belongs to him anyway.

Surrender

Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess You have given me: I surrender it all to You to be disposed of according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace; with these I will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more.

I Don't Believe in "Bad" Days, but...

Dear Diary, I believe that bad days are what you make of them. Until...
Last night the dog was limping something terrible. She's been fighting off this infection in her foot for weeks now and was doing much better, until the limp started. So I call the vet and they recommend a 1/4 of an aspirin for the pain and an 8:00 appt today. So I bring her in and 2 prescriptions later we're headed back home. But my hands start itching on the drive back. "Why is that?" I wonder. Ahhh, I bet it was that cat that I pet at the vet's office. Turned into a full blown rash all over my hands and wrists. Luckily I have cream for that.
After applying hydrocoritizone cream, and saying toodles to my puppy, a sharp pain stabs me in my left back/hip. It freezes me in my path and takes my breath away. No, not now. I think. I'm already late and have so much to do at work. I hobble to my car. I thought the pain was bad until I tried to get into my car. I was seeing stars at this point. Nothing to do but go to work.
As I drive along, I come to road construction. The guy with the slow/stop sign flips it to "STOP" as I approach...two seconds behind the last car he lets through. Come on buddy! The huge dump truck gets into my lane, facing me, and the loader proceeds to tear up the road in the opposite lane, dropping the old asphalt into the truck. TEN minutes later, they're still going at their digging and dumping. Forget this, I think, as I turn around in the road and take another route, shaking my head at the line of cars that had piled up behind me. A few other follow my lead/frustration.
I take another route. Guess what? Road construction! One lane traffic for miles.
I finally get to work, taking excruciating baby steps as I haul in the stack of library books I had picked up for a resident. The physical therapist stretches my back and I take the rest of the day off. The pain remains and actually starts shooting down my left leg and radiating up my spine. I call my chiropractor and she fixes me up. Again, road construction for miles both directions on the highway, making a 15 minute drive into 30 and making me late for a last-minute appointment.
Short story long, I'm icing my back, moisturizing my hands as I sit on my couch, catching up on computer work, convincing myself there is no such thing as bad days. I've fed my dog an antibiotic in cheese, put Neosporin on her foot, and a cone on her head. We're quite a pair. That and BB1 learned a new trick: how to stomp on Mommy's bladder while it plays the xylophone on the inside of my ribs. I should have just stayed in bed today.

New Dummy Light

Would you know what this light is if it lit up on your dashboard? I'd guess that your pants fell down...but apparently it means low tire pressure. Huh. Who knew?

YAWN! My (Much Needed) Prayer for the Day

Heavenly Father, as a tired bird is lifted by an unexpected gust of wind and is raised to a highter altitude and soars on with new strength and energy, so come and lift me in the same way. May your blessed strength surge through my mind, through my emotions, through feelings that will evergize and excite me this day. Thank you! AMEN

Coffee w/ the Maki's

Heather and the kids came in to Hibbing for Dr's appointment today, so we met prior for coffee @ Caribou. I didn't have my camera, so here's a pic I got emailed from Heather. Isabella is 2.5 mo and William is nearly 2.

My 1st Booby-Do Picture

27 weeks pregnant. (6 mo. 3 weeks) Last week my uterus measured 24cm. Right on for growth. (Your uterus should measure in cm close to the # of weeks you are pg.) I bought myself a stethoscope at Walmart last week. It's really cool to listen to baby. So what are baby’s stats this week (which, coincidentally, is the end of the second trimester)? Fifteen inches — more than a foot long — and triple what it was in week 12. Baby's weight is creeping up the charts as well, coming in at just over two pounds. Just 10 weeks to go until your baby reaches full term! From now until about week 30, Baby goes through a very active phase.

SOLD! One bike, one truck, and a free chair

This week we sold the truck, bike, and freecycled a chair...actually all in one day. If you need to sell anything, try Craig's list. It works!

This Week in Brooks' Debt-Free History

Thursday we celebrated David's birthday. What we were really excited to celebrate was "We're debt free!" Thanks to the wisdom of the Dave Ramsey plan, David was debt free before turning 32. Yeah! Like Ramsey says, we're changing our family tree. We're "weird"! Snoopy dance.

Good Bye Keewatin House

Making Memories: We sold the Keewatin house today (finally!). After waiting ever so patiently since May, we finally signed off on the house and sold it today. PTL! (This post was actually supposed to be dated Tuesday, 07/27/2010. Internet screwed up my sale date.)

2010 at Candise's Cabin

2010 Party at Candise's cabin last night. OMG I laughed so hard last night my belly hurts today. Those girls are just too much fun. I look forward to this every year, and I get more educated every year as well. This year I learned about licking eye balls, Turtle days, and Judy's new catch phrase, "Shut the back door". Ahh, making memories. Good company, good food, good friends, good times. Thanks girls. (Mom not picture b/c she's going Sat night.)

Lexie's Sore Foot

Lexie had been licking her foot for a few days. When it started getting sore looking, we called the vet. He shaved the hair from between her toes (as I had to hold her and coo to her) and discovered an infection between her toes. He said it looked as though she got stabbed w/ something and it got infected. We got a Rx for an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic and also have to put Neosporin on the wound daily. After the Neosporin, she has to wear a sock for 15 min so as not to lick the medicine. She's still doing her 2 mi/day walk without limping or wining. Here's a pic of my little trooper.

David's New Toy

David got a "new" toy from his parents house a few wkends ago. I'll let the picture talk for itself. :)

Girl Time

Kari Z. and I finally met up for coffee after work on Wednesday. We've been promising to do this for the past year or so, but we finally said, screw the schedules, lets just get together! I forgot how much a woman needs her girlfriends. Life is just too short for excuses. Take the advice of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and phone a friend. You'll feel like a millionaire at the end of the day when you have friendships this good!

Last Weekend's Project

I forgot to post last weekend's project. I keep this online journal so that I can remember when we do things. It helps when I remember to post what we did. Our shed was just east to the garden, sitting on rotting boards and slowly sinking (thanks to previous owners). We tag-teamed it so that Dave would lift a corner and I would slide a cement block under it, doing one corner and one block at a time...praying the entire time the thing wouldn't fall on my husband or my dog. The next day we backed the trailer under the shed, put some 12' 2x4s on the trailer, and took the blocks out, one at a time, one corner at a time, to lower it onto the trailer. Drove the trailer w/ the truck onto the cement slab David poured when the garage slab was done (Aug '07). Did the block thing again, said prayers again, pulled the trailer out, and lowered it to the slab. Good teamwork, Babe! Now lets never move that thing again. (Funny, with the shed up on blocks, it looks like one of those redneck pictures you get on email. This would be labeled "redneck A/C". Not that there's anything wrong w/ rednecks.)

Jesus of Nazareth: From the Baptism in the Jordan to the Transfiguration

I just finished the book Jesus of Nazareth: From the Baptism in the Jordan to the Transfiguration by Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger). Fr Gabriel lent it to me from his personal collection. I would highly recommend this book. He writes very elegantly, but doesn't write over your head. For example, he breaks down the Lord's prayer...each sentence and its meaning, how it became, and how to reflect on it in our lives. It is beautifully written to read cover to cover, but is also a great reference book. What does it mean to be transfigured anyway? Why does God choose mountains to speak to His people? What "daily bread" are we asking for anyway? I would highly recommend this book.

Makis Back in Goodland

Troy & Heather are moving to Goodland today. They packed up the kids and the dogs, and left behind their life in Dexter. A huge decision and a huge change, but may God bless them with His path and His direction towards His will. Good luck guys and welcome home!

6 Month (24 Week) Ultrasound

3D image of Baby Brooks. Last time the little bugger wouldn't wake up. This time, it wouldn't hold still! Luckily the tech got this picture before (s)he started martial arts in my tummy again. A few more 3D foot pics and then the regular ultrasound pictures. So far, so good, except BB1 is breech right now. 16 weeks left to flip. The other night, the head was poking up and the feet stretching on the other side. I could actually cup the head in the palm of my hand.

Ylsned: Microwave your sponge/dishcloths

They say you learn something new everyday. Dish sponges are often the dirtiest pieces in a kitchen. They often live next to the sink, the germiest place in the kitchen, and hold onto those germs and dirt creating a real health hazard. Sponges need to be sanitized at last every other day, and replaced every week or two for best protection against germs. Now, I don't know if Heloise knows this one or not, but at the end of the day, after washing your dishes and wiping down your counter tops, zap your sponge/dishcloths for 30 seconds in the microwave. This kills the germs and helps dry out the sponge/cloth before hanging it up for the night. BUT, be careful, it will be hot! :) This is a safer alternative to my favorite germ killing solution to my sponges...bleach.

Movie: Grown-Ups

We went to the movie "Grown-Ups" with Jer & Stacey and Lenny & Jodi last night. It was surprisingly clean and it had some pretty good one-liners. It also has a few big names from the old Saturday Night Live Show. I'd definitely recommend seeing it, but wait until it comes out on DVD. Afterwards we went for beers (pass the Shirley Temple please) and pool. All in all a good night with friends and a great chance to catch up.

Happy 4th

I forgot to journal what we did for the holiday. Now lets see if I can remember... Friday...I don't remember. Saturday we celebrated Mark turning 6 with the Brooks Family. I supervised Gary & David installing Jackie's air conditioner. hot and humid that day. Went home to nap before heading off to Nashwauk for some gyros and mini donuts...oh and visiting w/ friends and family. We reconnected with Jer & Stac & Brekken (oh those kissable cheeks), David & Kacey, and Lenny & Jody. We found our way to Auntie Ann & Uncle Bob's and caught up with them. We watched the awesome fireworks show with Grandma Angie, Bob, Mike, Cheryl, Ann, Kim, Jeff, Josh, Matthew.
Sunday we went to church, walked the dog, and headed off to Ely. We enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and the Ely parade with Mom & Earl, and even got some Butterfinger bars and pepper from the candy throwers in the parade. (The pepper was Durkee brand, so I can't sniff, sniff at that, LOL!) Afterwards we found some food stands and bought some cotton candy for Earl's son who is serving his country overseas. (He sends him care packages of junk food he can't get over there...and Spam, as a joke.) After some good conversation in the back forty and Kirby doing laps around the table, we headed off to check out Mom's knee-high-by-the-fourth-of-July corn and surrounding gardens and say hello to the rest of the Bulinski clan. Dave & I get such a kick out of Earl's parents that we always like to be able to say hello when we can. They were excited about our expected blessing and told us stories of how their 6 kids were born. Huh. Is it too late to turn back now? :)
We made it home by 830 since I had to work Monday.

What changes when you have a baby?

What changes when you have a baby? A better question may be: What doesn't change? Here, writer and mom Rebecca Woolf lists her most notable post-baby observations.
1. You finally stop to smell the roses, because your baby is in your arms.
2. Where you once believed you were fearless, you now find yourself afraid.
3. The sacrifices you thought you made to have a child no longer seem like sacrifices.
4. You respect your body ... finally.
5. You respect your parents and love them in a new way.
6. You find that your baby's pain feels much worse than your own.
7. You believe once again in the things you believed in as a child.
8. You lose touch with the people in your life whom you should have banished years ago.
9. Your heart breaks much more easily.
10. You think of someone else 234,836,178,976 times a day.
11. Every day is a surprise.
12. Bodily functions are no longer repulsive. In fact, they please you. (Hooray for poop!)
13. You look at your baby in the mirror instead of yourself.
14. You become a morning person.
15. Your love becomes limitless, a superhuman power.

Happy 4th of July

This was what Fr. Ryan's Homily was on today.
The 1st fold of our American Flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrances of the Veterans who have departed their prospective ranks who gave a portion of their life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world, not to have been in vain and shall never be forgotten.

The 4th fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, for it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for his divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of the immortal Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong".

The 6th fold of our flag represents where our hearts lie - andn it is with our hearts that we pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of American, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through these same armed forces that our country is protected and our flag protected against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the Valley of the Shadow of Death, that we might see the light of the day, and this fold is made to honor a Mother, for whom it flies on Mother's Day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyality and devotion that the characters of men and who have made this country great have been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to fathers, for they too have given of their sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were his first born.

The 11th fold of our Flag , for in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, this represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

The 12th and final fold, for in the eyes of a Christian Citizen, this represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies in their eyes God the Father, God the son and God the Holy Ghost.

When our American Flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, which reminds us of our national motto, "In God We Trust."
When the American Flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on an appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, and they, followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, have preserved for us the rights, Privileges and Freedoms that we are enjoying today.

Wednesday Night Lessons

Last night we started a 6 week series at our church and each week contains a different topic. The RCIA candidates of the church wanted more and so both priests opened it up to everyone. I couldn't believe the people that showed up. What a blessing to have such a large group. This week's topic was the Mass. Why do we do what we do? I remembered a lot from RCIA, but it was still a good refresher. One thing Fr Ryan said was that people complain that they don't get anything our of mass. That's not why we go. We don't go to get...we go to give. Give thanks to our God for all He is and all He has done. Kinda makes it easier to go now, doesn't it? Afterwards we met up with some acquatances of ours, wonderful people we hope to get to know better, and picked at their brains for another hour afterwards along w/ the priest. Truly genuine people who are on fire for the Lord, who also had some great child rearing advice. And I may have a babysitter already!

22 weeks

Pregnancy @ 22 weeks

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. Lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and even developing tiny tooth buds beneath the gums. The eyes have formed, but the irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers the body and the deep wrinkles on the skin, which (s)he'll sport until (s)he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside the belly, the pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

How your life's changing:
At this point, you may find your belly becoming a hand magnet. It's perfectly okay to tell folks who touch your tummy that you'd rather they didn't. And if people are telling you that you look smaller or bigger than you should at this point, remember that each woman grows — and shows — at her own rate.
Yea, why is this that people think they can just reach out and touch your belly? I have never touched a pregnant woman's belly. I've been getting the "Oh, you're starting to show a little"-pat-pat. I just can't fathom why anyone would think it's ok to just reach out and touch someone's stomach. Friends and family are acceptable, but I also hug family and friends too. I don't hug out of my comfort zone and I don't feel comfortable with the "pat pat" of a stranger's hand on my belly.

Quote by George Dana Boardman

Sow an act, and you reap a habit; sow a habit, and you reap a character; sow a character, and you reap a destiny. George Dana Boardman

Friday's Bible Versus

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger (Pr. 15:1).
Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out (Pr. 17:14).
Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful (2 Tim. 2:23-24).
All of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be
compassionate and humble (1 Pet. 3:6).

First Kicks

Last Tuesday 06/15 was our 20-week ultrasound of Baby Brooks. The tech said the reason I hadn't yet felt BB kick is b/c the placenta is on the anterior wall, making it harder for me to feel movement. I felt baby for the first time then on Friday. I stopped what I was doing, frozen in time. Was that it? ... Ooo, how about that? But last night I have no doubt. David was on the phone w/ his parents and I was reading in bed. I felt the thump, then again. I lifted my silken pajama top and watched my belly bounce. Not wanting to get up and disturb or shift Baby, I call for Dave. He comes in, phone to ear, and looks at me suspiciously. (I never holler for him, so it must be important right?) He follows my line of sight and stares at my belly, seeing it move. His warm hand reaches out to caress the thumping and tells Candy that the baby just kicked him. Later, BB gets me on the other side. I get a fit of the giggles. What a weird and miraculous feeling. Oooo, there (s)he goes again!

Deer in the Back 40

There was a doe with her new wobbly-legged fawn in our back yard. I took these pictures from our brown room. Baby was nursing while mom looked on. Pretty cool little miracle. Even more so as I look on, rubbing my own swollen belly. God is so good.

Flowering Plants

I have had my Christmas Cactus for 7 years. It has been to Goodland, Hibbing, LaCrosse, Winona, and back to Hibbing and for the first time this year it finally bloomed. My African Violet is super happy lately too!

Water Tests

Got our water tested the other day. Good news, no bacteria or nitrates. Yeah! Makes me feel a while lot better about drinking our water. It's actually really good water, I just never had it tested and being pregnant, it was recommended that we have it tested. A $50 insurance policy if you ask me.
